History
At Rosary, we believe that History is not simply a collection of stories from the past — it is the lens through which we understand who we are, how our world came to be, and where we might be heading. We want our children to think like historians: asking questions, weighing evidence, considering different perspectives and building a coherent narrative of the past.
Our History curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge and develop skills progressively from EYFS to Year 6. Children explore a wide chronological range — from the earliest civilisations and ancient empires to the medieval period, the British Empire and the modern world. Topics are chosen not only to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum but also to reflect the diverse heritage of our school community and the wider world.
Within each unit, children encounter a range of historical sources — artefacts, images, documents and oral testimonies — and are taught to interrogate them critically. They develop a rich historical vocabulary and practise the skills of chronological reasoning, cause and consequence, similarity and difference, and the significance of historical events and figures.
We enrich History learning through visits to museums and historical sites — London offers extraordinary opportunities on our doorstep — and through visitors, workshops and themed days that bring periods of history to life. We want our children to feel a genuine connection to the past and a curiosity that stays with them for life.
