Today Flamingos braved roaring lions, slithering snakes and even hissing cockroaches!
Thankfully, the weather cleared up and we were granted beautiful sunshine for our trip to the zoo. All of the animals were out bathing in the sunlight so we could easily spot them. In the morning, we wandered around the different enclosures, finding everything from snakes and lizards in the Reptile House to gorillas, lions, penguins.. the list goes on and on. We even fed some goats in the Farmyard (and some cheeky goats tried to eat Mrs Hayter’s scarf!)
After lunch, we had a workshop focussing on our topic – Rainforests. We wowed our guide with our existing knowledge of the different layers of the rainforest and the animals which can be found in each one. Then, armed with binoculars and thermometers, we went out into the rainforest and located fruit bats, tamarins, monkeys and sloths. We could get really close to the animals and see all of the features that make them special and adapted to their environments.
Before we left, we were introduced to two hissing cockroaches – Charlie and Bob. Although they are not dangerous, they imitate a hissing noise like a snake to ward off predators. We were all so brave and everyone gave the cockroaches a stroke.

I loved touched Charley but we didn’t get to see Bob Bob was the bigger one I love the trip to the zoo it was so fun! My favourite animal was the flamingos because they’re so bright and colourful and I am in flamingos class
Oh my goodness! This looks like the most exciting trip! I love the zoo, my favourite place there is the Reptile House. I love all the lizards AND they filmed Harry Potter there! I am very jealous of your day out!

I was soo scared when i touched the hissing cockroach. I was sad that we was not able to see bob but we saw charlie!
Wow! This looked like a marvelous trip at the zoo. I am very jealous Flamingoes. I’m sure you learnt so much about the animals and their habitats. I agree Ella, the flamingos are fabulous!
