Pelican’s have been learning how to group and classify animals in our science topic this term. Classification is the way scientists use to categorise and organize all of life.
It can help to distinguish how similar or different living organisms are to each other. Classification keys are yes/no questions that help us to identify a living thing or decide which group it belongs to by answering the questions.

We stared to build our own simple classification keys with post-it notes and lolly pop sticks.

We learnt that planning a broad question was important for the top of the classification key, before getting more precise as they key continues down.
