In support of our Invaders and Settlers topic in History, the Kingfishers have enjoyed researching about the Romans and the army in particular.

We were fascinated by the organisation of each legion after learning about the chaotic tribes of the Iron Age. You can find out more by clinking on the link below.

This week we created Roman shields with many designs being inspired by Mars the God of war. We learnt about the Testudo or tortoise formation used to protect legionaries in battle.

Thank you to Mr Bennett who allowed us to test out this formation against him the ‘Savage Celt’. It was so much fun!
