Last Wednesday our Years 3 & 4 Football teams played 4 matches in CSSA Football Competition at Hampstead Heath. It was a brilliant afternoon for football which saw some outstanding performances by everyone.
The boys team had a mixed afternoon with 2 wins and 2 loses . They started in red hot form, winning their first 2 matches of the afternoon against Edith Neville and Christchurch. However, they met stronger opponents in Game 3 & 4 and narrowly lost 2-1 and 1-0. Romario was dominant throughout all of the games giving Harry, Joseph and Leo R plenty of options up in the front half. Tate and Dominic also played strongly in the backline, slaving away to ensure they repelled any forward attacks from their opposition. A special mention goes to Leo S who was absolutely outstanding in goals all afternoon. Despite being out of his normal position, he rose to the challenge and made some critical saves at big moments.
In contrast, the girls team had a slow start but were able to play themselves into some form culminating in victories in game 2 and 4. The girls didn’t let the early defeats shake their confidence and worked tirelessly in all matches. Maria was tremendous in goals, withstanding the fast break attacks from her opposition with ease. She was supported by the strong rebounding runs of Erica and Emilia who tackled and chased furiously. Julia and Hannah worked extremely hard through the midfield giving Iulia and Melody plenty of opportunities to score.
Unfortunately, both teams failed to qualify for the next round but we are very excited about what is to come over the next 2 years for Rosary Football. A big thank you goes to Mrs Hayter for coming down to support and help coach both teams.
