Today we visited the October Gallery! First, we were given a section of a painting and we had to try and find which painting it had come from. Then we placed a gold square below our favourite painting in the gallery, explaining our reasoning. We did the same for red squares, below paintings we did not like as much.
We then looked at a ‘Peter’s Map,’ looking at different countries across the world. We learnt that Aubrey Williams was from Guyana. In some of his art works, Aubrey Williams painted Aztec and Mayan symbols. He was inspired by lots of things around him including his Guyanese background, the UK and especially music. We learnt three different techniques. First, we looked at smudging. Then we used our hands to create shapes – Aubrey Williams used a lot of shapes in his artwork. Finally, we focused on scrunching!
We used different coloured paints to create our own paintings, then added sand and flour to vary the texture. We created another piece of artwork using pieces of paper, glue and pastels.
A huge thank you to Jess, Josh, Esther and all other organisers for such a wonderful session!
