Today Eagles visited the Francis CRICK Institute! It was amazing to be inside a real laboratory!
First we learnt about how different atoms join together to form molecules. Some of us acted this out. Then we watched Dani actually pour our hydrogen peroxide into a measuring cylinder. We wanted to prove that hydrogen peroxide becomes water and oxygen. We added dye and soap and then as a catalyst, we added potassium iodine! The reaction was brilliant to watch!
We then carried out different experiments to find out where corn starch was, out of many options! We then filled in our results table.
After lunch, we focused on electronics! We used batteries, a motor, a buzzer and other components to make the object fly, bulbs light up and buzzers beep! We spoke about open switches and electricity which linked back to our previous electricity topic. A huge thank you to the staff at the Crick (especially Dani) for their hard work and wonderful workshops! Thank you also to our parent helpers!
