This week at school, our year 3’s have been learning about equivalence.

A great, easy game to further learning at home:

You need – a sheet of plain paper, a pencil, a sheet with numbers 1-20 written on it and some counters/coins.

How to play –

Player 1 places 3 counters on 3 numbers, adds them together to make a total, and writes down their sum.

Player 2 must use their counters to find an alternative way of making an equivalent total.

Keep going until you can find no other ways of making an equivalent total. Who had the most?!

You can up-level this game by including the use of – as well as +

This game is a fun way for children to learn the value of numbers and experiment with addition.
