Religious Education (RE)

Religious Education is the core of our curriculum. We aim to help children to find a personal faith in God and to enjoy a sense of awe and wonder at His creation. We teach tolerance and respect for other faiths, races and cultures.

We follow the scripture-based scheme of learning ‘The Way, The Truth, The Light’ based on the Religious Education Curriculum Directory for Catholic schools. It is creatively taught across the school drawing on all other areas of the curriculum and offers an effective, systematic and rigorous approach to teaching and learning. We supplement this curriculum as appropriate to ensure coverage of current events, and liturgical celebrations.

As a school we aim to focus on the seven Catholic Social Teaching principles. Catholic social teaching (CST) is rooted in Scripture, formed by the wisdom of Church leaders, and influenced by grassroots movements. It is our moral compass, guiding us on how to live out our faith in the world.

Our children are encouraged to take ownership of the liturgical life of the school and are given opportunities to explore their faith through masses, termly topic talks with our school Chaplain, special visitors and trips. We have close ties with our local parish St Dominic’s and we follow the call to help others with many charitable outreach projects and the work of the school’s Mini Vinnies.

As a Catholic School in the heart of London, we embrace the diversity of our local community, city and the wider world. We celebrate difference in all its forms. Learning about the religion and cultures of those who do not share the Catholic faith is one of the ways in which Catholic schools embody the call to love one’s neighbour and as such our Religious Education curriculum includes the detailed teaching of three other religions per academic year as well as learning about various other religious festivals throughout the year. Children are taught to be respectful and understanding of people and traditions from other faith backgrounds.
