WELL DONE YEAR 6 for completing your SATS!!!

The Hall Reading Competition – optional task (you must be ready to read your passage by Wednesday 21st May)
Children need to:

1.Select a passage from a novel or short story.
2.The passage should be 2-3 minutes in length when read out loud, including a very brief introduction to your passage (name of the book and author).
3.Rehearse at home by reading the passage out loud to themselves/ family members
4.Read the extract out loud to their class – teachers will organise when this will be (at some point before half term on 23.5.25)
5.Do not learn the passage off by heart – remember this is a reading competition!
6.Aim to engage the audience and make them want to read on!

When choosing a passage, children should try to select an interesting/moving/dramatic part of a book and avoid passages with extensive dialogue. The passage should ideally use effective language/ imagery and have broad appeal. Try to avoid passages from texts you have studied in class – this is a chance to celebrate wider reading! Children will be judged on their enunciation, projection, pace and expression/ interpretation.
Semi-finals will take place at our school the week beginning 2nd June 2025. If your child wants to participate, they should select a passage and start practising as soon as possible as class teachers will complete the first round in classrooms over the next two weeks.
