We had a fantastic day today! Florence Nightingale came to visit us at school! We dressed up as nurses, soldiers and people from Florence Nightingale’s time.

In the morning we had lots of different stations to work at. We completed various activities, including creating lockets for our loved ones (we even used hair on them), writing job applications, designing sashes for nurses and cross stitching. We also made candle holders out of clay and decorated uniforms for nurses and doctors. We were able to make medicine boxes, too. We discussed why each job was so important when Florence was a nurse. Florence used to write in her diary at least 3 times a day so we designed some diaries, too.

After break we had to act as detectives! We looked through different suitcases in groups and searched for clues. We used this evidence to guess who owned each suitcase.

We had so much fun after lunch! We role played being nurses, soldiers and hospital workers. We needed to clean the garden, do the laundry or make food in the kitchen. The nurses and doctors even had clipboards to make notes on their patients. The soldiers required lots of bandages and were very well cared for. We learned so much today and cannot wait to apply our learning and complete fantastic writing!
