Our Catholic Social Teaching theme for this half-term is: Dignity and Solidarity.

Dignity is closely linked to respect, as Catholics believe that God dwells in everyone. When we see one another we are called to recognise the dignity and beauty of the person (as we are all made in the image and likeness of God). This basic human dignity comes not from our race, gender or social status, but from God. All human beings are our brothers and sisters designed to be one race, one people, one family – showing respect and acknowledging dignity.

“What we are called to respect in each person is first of all his life, his physical integrity, his dignity and the rights deriving from that dignity…We are therefore called to think, speak and write respectfully of the other.”
– Pope Francis

Solidarity is based on the belief that we are all responsible for one another because we are belong to one human family created and loved by God.
At the very heart of the idea of solidarity is the understanding that we must take care of each other and unite against anything that harms another person because of who they are – our brothers and sisters.
This requires working for justice and peace.

“We are called not only to respect the natural environment, but also to show respect for, and solidarity with, all the members of our human family.”
– Pope Francis

In our classes, we have been learning a lot about Dignity and Solidarity and in Eagles, we wrote prayers to God, thinking about our dreams and hopes for the future and telling God about the talents we have that can help demonstrate our Catholic Social Teaching theme: Dignity and Solidarity.
