After months of preparation, today was finally the day! We buried our very own Rosary Time Capsule!

After discovering a time capsule from 1957 on the building site next door back in May, our school has been busy preparing to make and bury our own capsule. We had a very special assembly this afternoon with lots of very important visitors. These included representatives from PegasusLife (who are the owners of the site and who – amongst other things- commissioned the whole time capsule project, sourced the huge silver capsule itself and donated many interesting items to go inside). We welcomed representatives from Rise (the construction company who made it possible for us to visit the building site for the burial), structural engineers, the architects who designed the building, a public relations company called Keeble Brown, the local press, Stephen Stark our local ward councillor, representatives from Cancerkin and the Rt. Rev. John Wilson Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster. We reflected on our time capsule adventure and explored what we were placing in our brand new (and, it has to be said, very big and shiny) – capsule which will be opened in 2076! Some of the things we have placed inside are coins minted this year, a commemorative mug, rosary beads, stamps, this week’s blue newsletter, a Rosary school tie and t-shirt, an oyster card, a pencil, maps, a school photo, a cross, 3D glasses, and a newspaper. We were also excited to learn that we are putting a film we have made about life in 2076 onto a memory stick and this will also go in the capsule so that people can see what we thought life would be like in the future! Watch out to see this video on the school website!

After the assembly, 12 lucky children and 7 school adults walked over to the building site, dressed in high-vis yellow jackets and hard hats, to bury the time capsule. We passed the capsule along the line of children and then placed it in the ground before the Bishop said a lovely prayer.

In 60 years time, we hope that this capsule will be opened and explored by the future children of Rosary school. What do you think life will be like then?!

Thank you to all our Rosary family and friends for your enthusiasm and effort, and special thanks to our good friends at PegasusLife and Rise, the organisations that helped make this such a successful and wonderful project!

I’m an ex-pupil from 1966 to 1972 and have very happy memories of the good old Rosary. I lived locally until 2010 and and I’m happy to see your continued success. The Rosary has and always will be a great asset to the area. Love and best wishes to you all! ❤️
