This month, Year 3 have been visited by 3 professional artists from the Concordia Foundation to help us all prepare for our big opera trip on Monday 20th November.

First, we were visited by Andrea, who is a Soprano performing in Hansel and Gretel. She worked with Year 3 on how to characterise some of the characters in the story of Hansel and Gretel and we all had lots of fun improvising and performing our own short fairytales to the class.

Secondly, we were visited by Jess, the designer of the Opera. She helped us make our own masks that look like spiky trees with red glowing eyes. The masks will be used by all of us to create a spooky woodland that the actors will pass through during the promenade performance.

Finally, we had an amazing music workshop with Ros, who taught us all the songs that we will be joining in with during the Opera.  We had lots of fun learning the words and hearing about how the songs will fit into the story of Hansel and Gretel.

We can’t wait to visit Covent Garden, the home of Opera in London.  Mrs Wright will be taking us on a walking tour to see the outside of the Royal Opera House and we are keeping our fingers crossed that there might be some amazing performers out in the square that we can see before we go in to watch Hansel and Gretel in St Paul’s Church.
