Today, the Snowy Owls were tasked with writing a descriptive passage about the following picture:

I took this picture when I was on holidays in the summer. There were lots of great guesses as to where this castle is located, but no one got it correct.

This amazingly colourful castle is called Pena Palace and is located in…Sintra, Portugal!

Here are some of the brilliant descriptive passages about Pena Palace:

The sun woke up from its deep slumber. It shines so brightly that it could burn the whole world. The birds are getting ready to prey on the animals where the brobdingnagian forest lies up ahead. Deep into the mighty forest lies the ancient castle. It was made in the year 1 BC. It has been there longer than people  can remember. The clouds formed into mazes and the castle was guarded by a monster made from stone. The sky is dyed into a black, void abyss and the castle stands elegantly on the cliff of the hill, facing towards sea.

Fallen Kingdom
The beaming sun woke up. The birds hummed the tune of `tweet tweet.’ In the distance, a primeval castle appeared. Towering trees were all over the place. I could smell the fresh breeze. Swoosh Shooo… The sky was as blue as sapphire. The bright colours all made the whole rainbow. The trees joined in with the birds with their dancing. The entrance of the castle was blocked up like a maze. Little islands floated around. The sky was as vast as the ocean. Trees swung back to front as the wind came. The terrain was filled with people celebrating a festival. The castle was built in the year 1205 BC.

Such great responses to the task- up-leveled vocabulary and figurative language galore! I love the image of Ryan’s sun waking up from its slumber, of Hannah’s sky being as vast as an ocean and of Chloe’s trees dancing across the island. It feels like I’ve actually been transported right back to Sintra!

Well done everybody!
