Last Tuesday night the 5/6 Football teams continued their campaigns to take out the Camden League Title. This week, the girls team stole the limelight with 2 impressive victories in ice cold temperatures at Castlehaven. Led by Coach Terri, the girls recovered from a slow start  in Game 1 to dominate Games 2 and 3 against Fleet and St Dominics. Sinead and Zara were strong all night in defence making key tackles when it mattered most. Jehovani made some quality saves in Game 2, ensuring she kept the Fleet team scoreless. Maddie was excellent through the midfield providing a link and plenty of options for our key forwards. Aimee was again our focal point up forward as she scored 3 goals in game 2 and 2 goals in game 3. However it was Lacey who stole the show with the most complete all around performance of the evening. She was damaging up forward, using her blistering pace to support Aimee with great passing. Lacey worked tirelessly from defence to attack and was the most influential player on the field scoring 2 very important goals- A truly tremendous performance.

The boy’s night was a little different with some mixed performances and scorelines. Game 1 saw them draw 0-0 with St Eugenes in an extremely tight and sloppy match where neither team made use of their opportunities. Game 2 against Fleet was a different story as we dominated and won the match 10-0. Sean was unstoppable up forward as he pressured the Fleet defence tirelessly. Sean scored the first 4 goals of the match and led from the front to setup the victory. Ezekiel was again brilliant, controlling the game down back, scoring 2 of the most outstanding goals all night.

Game 3 was a great test for the boys as they faced a quality side in St Dominics. The match was tight early on and the pressure was high, forcing both teams to squander chances in front of goals. It was St Dominic’s relentless pressure that eventually broke our boys down as they took advantage of 2 mistakes in the first half to lead 3-0 at half time. Archie was excellent in goals and really showed his leadership despite facing some quality strikers. Danny and Ivan were strong in defence but faced extreme pressure all evening. Charles and Oliver also worked hard throughout the second half to peg back the lead and make it 3-1.

Overall, the game was fantastic learning curve for the boys team, one that will leave them in good stead in the final rounds.

Our next matches are on the 12th December.
