The Ice Palace

This term our new topic is the Ice Kingdom and as part of this we have been reading the book ‘The Ice Palace’. This story is about a boy called Ivan who has to venture out into the freezing forest in search for his brother who has been taken by the mysterious Starjik.

In the summer all the villagers of Ivan’s town are happy because they know Starjik will not come into the village but in the winter everyone is scared as they know Starjik will visit and a child will go missing. To get into character we thought about what the villagers may do in the summer and how this would differ to their winter activities. Here are some photos below which show the children’s thoughts based on the text they have been reading. These are based on the villagers experiences in winter and supported children in their writing the next day.
